Features of Exerpeutic 900XL Recumbent Exercise Bike
Shipping and Assembly
The bike’s drive system, including flywheel, crank, brake pad and transmission belt come already packed inside the front part. Users just have to assemble the bases of the frame, the seat, front handlebars and pedals, connect the console wires and tension cable, and then the console. An assembly manual accompanies the recumbent bike in which assembly instructions are given clearly and in detail.
Required tools for the assembly are also included. However, some users find the assembly complicated, while others find it very easy. On an average, it takes about one and a half hour to put the bike up and running.
Great Step-through Design and Comfort in the Price Range
Considering its price, Exerpeutic 900XL is indeed a nice entry-level, affordable recumbent bike. Although it’s a basic model, it has a great design, solid construction and ability to suit a wide range of users.
The creativity of the designers of the Exerpeutic 900XL is noticeable. The step-through design allows users to get on and off the machine very easily. The center of gravity has been kept low and the design includes extended leg stabilizers. Due to both these design elements, the bike is stable even during vigorous workouts. It provides users a backrest and extra-large padded seat to increase the comfort level. Further, the foot pedals are large to add to the comfort and allow users of various foot sizes to use the machine.
The Exerpeutic 900XL has eight levels of magnetic resistance.
Due to this, users can start from the bottom and gradually increase the endurance level safely and efficiently. While the lower setting is good for a beginner to start with, the highest one offers a great struggling point to even a pro athlete.
However, the resistance levels have to be set manually although this is quite common for this price range, so is the lack of pre-programmed workouts.
Silent feature of the Exerpeutic 900XL allows users to engage into other activities like watching TV, reading, listening to music etc. while exercising, thus keeping the interest on in the exercise and simultaneously increasing the workout time.
While the Exerpeutic 900XL may not offer top-class technology that is offered by costlier stationary bikes, the comfort level it offers is at par with its high-end competitors.
Firstly, it has got a walk-through design due to which getting on and off the bike is a breeze.
Secondly, its seat is large, padded and adjustable, so as to suit a range of users. It can be adjusted for users from 5’3” (160 cm) to 6’6” (197 cm) (but users as short as 4’9″ (145 cm) or even 1-2 inches shorter than 4’9″ can also use this machine; the shortest distance from the seat to the pedals is 40”).
However, adjusting the seat can be quite challenging because of the three different knobs that are meant to secure the seat. Loosening and tightening them can be cumbersome in the beginning.
This makes this machine unsuitable for homes where multiple users are looking for exercising with it.
Thirdly, it features a backrest to minimize the impact on back, waist and hips.
The Exerpeutic 900XL features a drive system that consists of a smooth torque crank system, equipped with pedals that are large enough to accommodate a large range of foot sizes comfortably. These pedals feature foot straps for added safety. So, users can carry on their exercises without worrying that their feet may slip out.
The bike’s flywheel, though not very heavy like that of spinning bikes, is precision-balanced for added inertia and fluid pedaling. A heavy-duty V-belt connects the flywheel and the crankshaft, leading to an extremely smooth and quiet ride.
The Exerpeutic 900XL features leg stabilizers that prevent the bike from tipping over regardless of the intensity of workout.
The 900XL features a magnetic braking system. Hence users don’t have to plug in the bike into a power source.
Easy to Move
The Exerpeutic 900XL can be moved from place to place easily, thanks to its transportation wheels.
However, it is highly recommended to place the unit on the permanent location, preferably on the good floor mat and exercise daily or whenever one has time.
Also, a good floor mat protects the floors and reduces already rather low noise during exercises.
The display of Exerpeutic 900XL is a large 3.5” LCD monitor which is easy to read. It helps you track distance, time, speed, calories burned, scan and heart rate, although it doesn’t feature built-in workout programs.
The countdown timer is a great feature with which users can set how long they want to exercise. It also features an odometer that shows how many miles users have ridden.
There are three buttons on the monitor: Mode to be used for navigating through the functions, Set to preset a target value and Reset to reset a value to zero.
Note: 2 AA batteries are needed for the console.
Smart Cloud Fitness
Users can also track their fitness parameters through their mobile devices, thanks to the Bluetooth Smart Cloud Fitness with the free MyCloudFitness app workable for both Android as well as iOS.
This app feature three goal settings: distance, time and calories burned and allows the user to monitor and track workouts in greater detail than with the console itself.
Handlebars and Heart Rate Sensors
The front handlebars of Exerpeutic 900XL are not used by most users, as they are there just to help the users to get on and off the bike. Also holding them during exercises would be quite uncomfortable.
However the seat handlebars are ergonomically designed, they are a bit bent upward and offer optimum comfort.
Also the seat handlebars feature heart rate sensors which are useful for users wishing to track their heart rate for health reasons or to check the increase in endurance.
Both front and seat handlebars are not adjustable and have a rubber foam coating that offers a firm grip.
The 900XL doesn’t require much of maintenance. All parts are pre-lubricated and don’t need extra lubrication. Drive belt is designed to last a lifetime and brake doesn’t have to sustain any wear and tear because it doesn’t come in contact with the flywheel. Thus, users just have to keep the bike clean. Plastic parts should not be applied with any solvents and any moisture and perspiration should be cleaned from the console.
The Exerpeutic 900XL comes with a 3-year warranty on frame and 90-day warranty on parts.
