Features of Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT Recumbent Exercise Bike
The Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT comes partly assembled. The base frame and internal parts are already assembled. What users have to do is to connect the base stabilizers, seat, backrest, console mast console, and pedals. All tools needed for the assembly are included and the user’s manual provides thorough instructions and schematics. Thus, the assembly shouldn’t take more than an hour or two.
The main frame of the Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT is made of steel tubing. Except for the console mast and base stabilizers which are cylindrical, the rest of the frame is flattened. The frame is painted with corrosion-resistant silver paint, except the seat adjustment rail which has a chrome finish. The bike’s internal parts are protected by two sturdy ABS covers.
To make the access and operation of the bike easy for elderly and disabled users, the Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT has a very convenient step-thru design.
This recumbent bike is not too heavy. Its weight is around 71 lbs. (~32 kg). Plus, its front base has transport wheels. Thus, it can be easily relocated.
Maximum User Weight Capacity
The bike offers a decent maximum user weight capacity of 310 lbs.
The unit is not too large as compared to many other fitness machines available out there. However, it has a footprint of 58” length and 23.5” width when fully assembled. In addition, it’s recommended to leave a clearance of at least two feet on its two sides and of one foot on the front and backside, to facilitate easy access and operation. All in all, the bike may not be a good fit for a small space, like a small room or apartment.
The Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT is provided stability by the middle adjustable leveler and the adjustable polygonal caps on the backside.
The console of the Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT has a large LCD display with a blue LED backlight that significantly improves its readability. The display is split into many sections, thus displaying all the workout stats at the same time; so, users don’t need to use the SCAN function to alternate them. The workout stats include distance, time, speed, calories, and heart rate. The top section shows the profile of the program being used. The console isn’t telemetric, but can read pulse via the sensors integrated in the seat handlebars.
The console also offers a goal-setting function for time, distance and calories. When the user selects a target for any of these metrics, the unit will start a countdown for it until the value reaches zero.
Also, the unit offers two user profiles thus allowing two persons to use the machine. Thus, users can save their program settings and user data like age and weight, so that the console will show a more precise reading of the calories burned.
The Bluetooth connectivity of the console is an important feature of the Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT. Users can sync it with a smartphone or tablet with the MyFitQuest4 fitness app installed on it, so as to directly stream their workout data online. The app helps users keep a better track of their progress, check their workout history, and several other online features.
Preset Workout Programs
The Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT comes with 21 preset workout programs that control the resistance level automatically. Based on their matrix, they can help users focus their training differently, enabling them to perform light or rigorous exercises, heart rate focused training, interval training, and so on. A Manual mode is also present that offers the possibility to adjust the resistance as per user’s choice during their workout sessions.
Seat and Backrest
The Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT has an ergonomic seat which is 15.5″ (39.3 cm) long and 11″ (28 cm) wide. Both the seat and backrest are padded with 2.5″ (6.3 cm) foam cushion which provides optimal comfort and lumbar support.
The entire seat assembly can be adjusted with an ‘easy slide’ seat adjustment capability. It has an oblique sliding rail that provides many inches of adjustment. Thus the unit can accommodate users of height ranging from 4’11” to 6’6” (150 to 198 cm) facilitating complete leg extension. However, the backrest cannot be reclined or adjusted independently of the seat.
There are two sets of handlebars on the Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT – one attached to the console mast and the other to the seat assembly. There are metallic pulse sensors integrated in the seat handlebars which help users monitor their heart rate.
The front handlebars are a little bent towards the user and have simple, straight grips. Both sets of handlebars are equipped with rubber foam grips for comfort and easy hand adherence.
The bike is equipped with a motorized magnetic resistance system, i.e. resistance can be controlled only via the machine’s console, and the bike should be connected to a power source if users want to get the benefit of resistance adjustment. A power adapter is included.
There is a small servo motor and magnetic brake in the resistance system. When users select a particular resistance level from the console, the position of the magnetic brake will be changed by the motor increasing or reducing the intensity of the magnetic field around the flywheel.
The unit has got 16 magnetic resistance levels out of which the first three offer very light and low-impact exercise options, ideal for users in need of recovery training because of surgery, illness or injury. On the other hand, the highest resistance levels from 14 to 16 offer possibilities of more intense exercises that simulate a steep climb. This is perfect for building stamina and strength of leg muscles.
Like most bikes featuring a magnetic brake, the Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT too has a belt drive system. It has a sturdy stretch-resistant V-belt that offers a very quiet and vibration-free pedaling motion. Also, unlike a chain drive, this belt doesn’t need regular lubrication.
The internal flywheel of the unit is perimeter-weighted, meant for a slight momentum; but more important than this is that it produces a very smooth and steady pedaling motion.
Crankset of the unit features two solid chrome-plated, steel crank arms. However, users should not stand on the pedals. Pedals are oversized, weighted, and self-leveling. They feature a non-slip surface and adjustable straps so as to secure users’ feet perfectly while exercising. The “smooth torque” cranking system offers a smooth and consistent pedaling motion.
The top of the console has an expanded section which can be used to place user’s phone or tablet, so that they can access the MyFitQuest4 app or watch their favorite online streams while exercising and keep entertained.
Moreover, the top portion of the ABS covers of the internal parts is molded inward, forming a small storage space where users can place water bottle or accessories.
The Exerpeutic GOLD 975XBT doesn’t require much maintenance as the internal parts don’t need any lubrication. Thus what users have to do is to remove dust from the unit with a damp cloth, protect the console from any spills and check for any loose parts.
