Optimum Nutrition L-Glutamine Muscle Recovery Supplement
Optimum Nutrition L-Glutamine Muscle Recovery Supplement comes as unflavored powder and in the form of capsules and it may play a very important role in recovery and regeneration after workouts, especially during the periods of low-calorie diets.
Optimum Nutrition L-Glutamine Muscle Recovery Supplement should be taken only as a part of a well-balanced diet since no supplement on its own can replace real food. IMHO, of course.

Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body, comprising more than 60% of the free amino acid pool in skeletal muscles and more than 20% of total circulating amino acids.
Glutamine is present in various foods and supplements, including, for example, whey protein.
However, during the periods of low-calorie diet or during the periods of intensive workouts, glutamine may be supplemented to aid with the recovery and regeneration of muscles and other tissues.
Optimum Nutrition L-Glutamine comes in the form of unflavored powder in 150g, 300g, 600g, and 1000g tubs and in the form of bottles containing 120 and 240 capsules (2 capsules = 1g of L-Glutamine).
Personally, I am not a big fan of supplements in pills and capsules - powdered L-Glutamine is more cost-effective and can and should be mixed with other protein supplements in protein shakes and smoothies.
The best time to take L-Glutamine is to mix it with whey protein and fast carbs in the Post Workout Shake and consume it right after workout, regardless if that was a gym workout or a cardio session on your recumbent bike in the privacy of your home.
A typical dose of L-Glutamine is 5g (one heaping teaspoon, although a small food scale (accuracy 0.1g is more than enough) is perhaps a better choice) per day.
Is an L-Glutamine a 'must-have' supplement? No, it is not. But, it may actually help - personally, no matter how good whey protein is, I try to add unflavored L-Glutamine and unflavored BCAA in my Post Workout Shake.
Such 'stacked' Post Workout Shake actually helps in recovery and regeneration after hard workouts during periods of diet - been there, done that.
However, no supplement can replace a well-designed nutrition plan - real food is the real food :)
