Quest Nutrition protein bars weigh 60g and on have 180 - 210 calories, 20-21g of protein, 21-25g of carbs, 0-2g of sugars (no added sugars!), 13-16g of dietary fibers, 2-6g of sugar alcohol erythritol and 6-10g of fats.
Note on erythritol: Sugar alcohols are made from sugars, hence the name, and they contain multiple hydroxyl (OH-) groups and are often used as sweeteners. Since they are not completely digested, they may cause some 'stomach issues' in sensitive people. On average, 50g of sugar alcohols for adults and 25g of sugar alcohols for children are considered 'safe' regarding digestion 'issues'.
Sugar alcohols also make protein bars soft and chewy, just like candies.
Main protein source of Quest Nutrition protein bars is protein blend consisting of milk protein isolate and whey protein isolate. Such protein blend, especially when mixed with other ingredients with high fiber content, doesn't digest quickly, helping one feel satiated for longer - when compared with protein bars based only on whey proteins.
Quest Nutrition protein bars come in packages containing 12 and 20 bars. Also, they are available in several variety packs:
- Chocolate Lovers Variety Pack includes a few of each of the following flavors: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Double Chocolate Chunk and Mint Chocolate Chunk. Highly recommended for chocoholic trainees :)
- Ultimate Variety Pack includes 12 different flavors: Blueberry Muffin, Double Chocolate Chunk, Chocolate Brownie, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Mocha Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Hazelnut, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peanut Butter, S'mores, Cookies and Cream, and White Chocolate Raspberry. Ultimate Variety Pack is excellent for testing, but also for avoiding the boredom.
Quest Nutrition protein bars taste good, almost candy-like good, but they are low on added sugars, and have very nice amount of protein and fibers. They can be used in many occasions, even on low-calorie diets to fight cravings for sweets.
For example, many people reward themselves with a Quest Nutrition protein bar after each cycling session - this helps with cravings for sweets and makes people more focused on the diet and workout goals.
Note: no supplement can replace real food and well balanced nutrition.
Personally, chocoholic people (like author of this review) should go for chocolate flavors or Chocolate Lovers Variety Pack (Amazon link, link opens in the new window), while other people should either try their favorite flavors individually, or simply go for a Ultimate Variety Pack (Amazon link, link opens in the new window) and test 12 individual flavors.
